They say that imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. I’ve always strived to do the most innovative thing especially with my art. I’m from of city where innovation is rare. People will see you do something and attempt to do it just because they think that they are better at it than you. Most of the time, they are driven by money without an ounce of passion in their drive. It’s unfortunate because some people buy into and end up disappointed. Now we have a crappy show that an audience had paid for and a larger audience that will stray away from spoken word shows and other events. Luckily, my true fans have held on to my path. They’ve watched me perform in college and at schools for free to now traveling the country doing what I’m meant to do. I didn’t start writing poetry because I liked it. I did it because I needed it. Promoting my shows is easy because I’m selling what I love. I have a passion for entertaining, educating, and encouraging. That alone, separates me.
